TinkerLab was founded with one clear goal: to make real-world engineering education accessible to students across Western Sydney and beyond.

Through my own journey in robotics and mechatronics, I saw a gap. While schools offered basic STEM or block coding clubs, few provided students with hands-on exposure to real engineering tools — like CAD design, Arduino electronics, or mechanical systems. Worse, these opportunities were often limited to select schools or weren’t inclusive, particularly for girls navigating stereotypes in male-dominated spaces.

At university, I realised how important those early experiences were. While my personal projects helped me thrive, many peers struggled with fundamental skills — not because they lacked ability, but because they were never given the chance to explore them earlier.

TinkerLab exists to bridge that gap.

We offer engaging robotics and engineering classes that teach students how to think, build, and create like real engineers. From designing parts in CAD and assembling robot kits to programming with Arduino, every session empowers students with practical knowledge, creativity, and confidence.

Daniya Syed

Lead Educator

Daniya Syed is a third-year Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) student at the University of Technology Sydney with a passion for robotics, automation, and social impact through STEM education.

With over six years of experience in competitive robotics, she has proudly represented Australia on the international stage — including leading Team Australia to a silver medal at the FIRST Global Robotics Olympics in Switzerland. She has also coached school robotics teams since 2022, guiding them to multiple national-level awards.

Her contributions to STEM and the community have been recognised through awards such as Western Sydney Young Woman of the Year (2021) and being a two-time finalist for the NSW Young Woman of the Year Award.

Beyond engineering, Daniya serves as a Youth Ambassador and advocate for equity in STEM, working to inspire and empower the next generation of innovators. She is also the founder of TinkerLab Australia, a not-for-profit initiative that brings robotics and coding workshops to students in Western Sydney, helping bridge the gap in STEM opportunities for young learners.
